An NHS nursing team
A session on compassion and empathy fatigue, 2023.

David Oromith is a Buddhist teacher and meditation guide with a background in mental health services. He started as a support worker at eighteen and went on to work on the wards and in the community, so he knows the pressures of caring work first hand.
He gives talks for nurses, carers and frontline teams on empathy fatigue, stress and burnout, with practical tools that fit around a shift.
“My biggest take away from this one is to build time into my day when I know I will be supporting someone who is struggling mentally.”

David worked in mental health services for years, as a support worker and then on the wards and in the community. He has his own experience of empathy turning into despair in that work, and talks about it with care teams.
His sessions combine the Buddhist understanding of compassion with what he learned in caring work. He is a qualified mindfulness teacher and a Mental Health First Aider.
“This came just at the right time for me.”
“David talking about his experience made me realise that I’m not alone and there is nothing to be ashamed about.”
“The session I attended with David was so incredibly helpful. He’s so calming and insightful.”
“I found the session really insightful and I will definitely be trying out the methods David mentioned.”
“David’s teachings are so compassionate, so genuine and so kind, that it is an absolute pleasure to listen to him.”
