What data we collect and why

Newsletter signup

If you sign up to the occasional newsletter, we collect your email address. We use this to send you infrequent emails about new writings, upcoming retreats, and the occasional reflection. The legal basis is consent: you opt in voluntarily and can unsubscribe at any time by using the contact form.

Speaking & event enquiries

If you submit a speaking or event enquiry via the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and any details you choose to include (organisation, event date, audience size, brief). This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry. The legal basis is legitimate interest: you contacted us with a specific request and we need to reply to it. We do not add you to any mailing list without your explicit consent.

No tracking or analytics

This site does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking scripts. We do not set advertising or tracking cookies.

Cookies

This site is built on WordPress. WordPress sets a small number of technical cookies (such as session cookies for logged-in users) that are essential to the operation of the site. These are not advertising or tracking cookies and are not shared with third parties.

How long we keep your data

Newsletter subscribers: your email address is kept until you ask to be removed. Contact enquiry data: kept for as long as it takes to handle your enquiry, and no longer than 12 months after the enquiry is resolved.

Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data stays between you and us. The events listed on the Teaching page are fetched from a read-only API at samadhi.org.uk. No personal data is sent to or from that service during your visit.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Erase your data (the "right to be forgotten")
  • Restrict how we process your data
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest
  • Withdraw consent at any time (for newsletter signups)

To exercise any of these rights, please use the contact form. We will respond within 30 days.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection issues.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
